Safety & Compliance Officer – Brisbane

The Role

Bondwoods Transport (Aust) is seeking a proactive and experienced Safety & Compliance Officer to oversee and drive compliance across its transport operations. This role is critical to ensuring the business meets all NHVL, HVNL, Road Transport Law and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, while continuously improving safety, systems, and compliance outcomes. You’ll work closely with drivers, management, and senior leadership, playing a hands-on role in audits, investigations, training, and operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with NHVL, HVNL, Road Transport Laws and CoR obligations.
  • Manage heavy vehicle accreditations, permits, maintenance schedules and compliance documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve compliance breaches, incidents and non-conformances.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records and support reporting and data entry.
  • Develop, review and maintain policies, procedures and training materials.
  • Oversee onboarding and ongoing compliance for employees and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate and participate in internal and external compliance audits.
  • Conduct audits of insurance, registrations, licences and pre-start checks.
  • Analyse fleet performance and compliance data to support continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, drivers and leadership to embed safety culture.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in transport compliance, auditing or risk management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian transport legislation, including NHVR / NHVL, HVNL, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), Mass Management, Load Restraint, and Maintenance Management.
  • Experience with transport management systems such as Gearbox, V-DAQ, TN360, Rapid Global, Log Checker (or similar).
  • High attention to detail with strong integrity and objectivity.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage drivers, managers and senior leadership.
  • A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement.
  • A genuine passion for the transport industry.
